Wine 7 - 18th December, Domaine Laffitte, Sauvignon Blanc
This is our best-selling white wine. We state 'semi-dry' in the small print, but don't let that put you off. It's a crisp and fresh citrusy Sauvignon Blanc with a dash of Gros Manseng which adds layers of fresh pineapple spiciness and toasted hazelnuts. Drink on its own or as an aperitif, as well as during a meal and even into the pudding course. A super-versatile white wine which keeps everyone happy. Take this bottle to a party and you'll be everyone's favourite guest, it's just that good!

The Real Wine Story
At the Vinisud Wine Trade Fair which used to be held in Montpellier each spring (now in Paris), there was always one Great Hall where each exhibitor could put a bottle or two of their wines for visitors to self-serve and taste at leisure. This was always our starting point. The mission; speed-taste over 1,000 wines in two days then select the top five picks to visit in person on the third day.
One jumped out, with it's fresh, spicy nose, and clean fruity palate. Dry but with just a hint of sweetness to take the edge off the Sauvignon Blanc. Several years later it remains our best-selling white wine. The spicy fruit, enhanced by a dash of Gros Manseng, means it goes really well with Chinese and Thai foods as well as the more traditional fish and white meats.
Gascony is a bit of a poor relation wine area to the south of Bordeaux but the Laffitte brothers are showing just how good the region’s wines can be. They also make a rather special 1990 vintage Armagnac if you have a 35th anniversary coming up next year! We’ve spotted Gascony wines popping up more and more on trendy wine lists and suspect we sniffed this one out early. But as the Real Wine ethos demonstrates these wines are for life and not just a moment in the sun.
