Domaine des Nymphes, Muscat Beaumes de Venise, France
Friends Jean Pierre and Eric run the beautiful Chateau La Croix Des Pins in the Southern Rhone. Named Latitude after the beautiful south facing hills the vines for this wine grow on. Very ripe Muscat grapes are fortified to 15% ABV which freshens the wine before it is aged in oak for six months.
The Domaine des Nymphes is the story of a dream come true: that of Marcel Meyer who, in 1979, after having spent years at the Rasteau cooperative cellar, decided, with the help of his sons, daughter and son-in-law, to found his own estate, a family estate. Domaine des Nymphes was built around mythology, thanks to an altar dedicated to the Nymphs dating from Antiquity found in 1850 on the current site of the winery. The estate benefits from an exceptional terroir, made up of clay and limestone soils, blue and red marls. This remarkable composition has the particularity of absorbing the heat present during the day and releasing it during the night. The vines are also exposed to the south, giving them maximum light. The Mistral wind completes the picture by optimizing the slow maturation of the grapes.
