Abbotts & Delaunay, Cotes du Roussillon Villages, France
A blend of Syrah and Grenache with a slug of whole branch Carignan which once again showcases one of the Languedoc's fine range of regional appellations. 40% of the handpicked grapes are aged in oak following fermentation. The result is a fat, structured red, but it's not 'in your face', it's really very nicely balanced. The grapes for this wine hail from three of the Roussillon's famed terroirs: Montner (a temperate zone producing grapes that lend depth to the wine), Tautavel (a hot, dry terroir whose grapes add complexity) and Caramany (a cooler area with grapes that lend elegance). Aging is 40% barrels (20% new oak) and 60% stainless steel tanks.
Laurent Delaunay is a passionate winemaker who has become a recognized specialist in Languedoc wines through his wine-merchant business, Badet Clément & Cie, which he founded in 1995. He represents the fifth generation of a Burgundian family of producers and negociants.
